Brevard Cross Country Makes Final Preparations for Tusculum Open

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College cross country team will head to Greeneville, Tenn., on Friday to compete in the Tusculum Open at the Holston Homes Course with the start time set for 6 p.m.

The Tornados are one of nine teams participating in the meet including Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial, Johnson University, Maryville College, Milligan College, North Greenville, Welch College and host Tusculum.

Brevard head coach Michael McClaran's squad features 10 men and four women, including senior Hassan Kiprono and Michael Anton, who will be critical to the success of the team this weekend.

Anton and Kiprono will be looking to provide experience to a Tornado squad that has six freshmen and four sophomores. Among the two sophomores are Kaitlin Chaump and Mary Gray Davis, the most experienced individuals on the women's unit.

"I'm really looking forward to the first meet of the season," said McClaran. "Both the returners and the incoming freshman have great energy. More importantly I'm excited to see how they come together as a team for our first meet."
