BREVARD, N.C - The Brevard College Volleyball team (1-22, 1-10 USAS) dropped two matches as the host of a USA South Conference quad-match on Saturday at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

The Tornados played Huntingdon on Saturday morning to open action at the quad-match.  Huntingdon (18-13, 7-3 USAS) won the contest 3-0 despite the Tornados playing competitively throughout all three sets.

Set number one saw the Tornados take a 15-14 lead after a service ace by Hannah Gordon, then a 17-15 advantage following a kill by Julie McGahy

The Hawks, however, would win seven of the next ten points to take a 20-17 lead before winning the set 25-21.

The second and third sets were then each won by Huntingdon by the identical score of 25-19.

Mariana Rodriguez led the Tornados with 17 digs on the defensive end vs. Huntingdon. Hannah Gordon recorded nine assists, while Brook Groves and Sarah Hutchens each tallied four kills.

The service game continued to be a strength for Brevard which recorded five aces in the match. Rodriguez and Gordon each registered two service aces, while Grace Pukas added one ace.

After two matches on the Boshamer Gymnasium floor not involving the Tornados, Brevard was back in action for a 4 p.m. start vs. LaGrange (8-16, 5-4 USAS).

The Tornados dropped their first two sets 25-14 and 25-27, yet were much more competitive in set number three.

BC led the third set 19-16 after several points on the service of Rodriguez. LaGrange, however, came back to score seven straight points.  Down 23-19, Brevard
stayed alive and cut the deficit to one point following an ace by Breanna O'Shields. However, two straight points put the set (25-22) and the match (3-0) away for the visiting Panthers.

In the match vs. LaGrange, O'Shields led BC with an all-around performance of nine kills and 10 digs.  Pukas delivered 10 assists, while Rodriguez anchored the defense with 17 digs.

Next up for Brevard will be the home finale on Tuesday when non-conference foe Bob Jones visits the Boshamer Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
