Mariana Rodriguez Claims USA South Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week Honor

BREVARD, N.C. - Sophomore Mariana Rodriguez was named the USA South Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award for an impressive individual performance that helped the Brevard College Tornados volleyball team earn its first win of 2019 - a 3-0 sweep vs. Agnes Scott in Demorest, Georgia. 

The announcement marks the first USA South weekly award for the BC volleyball team since becoming members of the conference. 

The sophomore defensive specialist from Houston, Texas averaged 6.33 digs per set as the Tornados posted a 1-1 record over the weekend. In a 3-0 win over Agnes Scott, Rodriguez totaled 19 digs, three service aces, two assists and one kill. In a 3-0 loss to Covenant, Rodriguez posted 19 digs and one service ace.

Rodriguez sits second overall in the USA South with 5.62 digs per set and is currently tied for fifth place with 343 total digs. 

The Brevard College volleyball team returns home for the first time since Saturday, September 7 for a mid-week home conference contest vs. Piedmont College on Wednesday, October 16 at 6 p.m.
