Tornados Drop Pair in Tri-Match at Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Brevard College Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon in a tri-match hosted by Covenant College.

Brevard (2-22, 2-12 USA South) began the tri-match with a contest against host Covenant (15-12, 12-2) who defeated the Tornados 25-16, 25-14 and 25-16.  
 
Sydney Fox led BC offensively in the match with 10 kills to go along with 14 digs on the defensive end.  Jordan Lloyd and Mariana Rodriguez each registered 15 digs defensively as well.  Setter Hannah Gordon put up a team-high 21 assists in the match.
 
The second match of the day, played immediately following the Covenant match, was more competitive as the Tornados took on non-conference opponent Pensacola Christian.  
 
Brevard and Pensacola Christian (15-15) played a tight first set with BC ultimately falling 25-22.  After dropping the second set 25-16, the third set proved to be a very tight affair.
 
Late in the third set and facing match point, Gordon set up Raley Shirey who delivered a kill on a beautiful assist to tie the match 24-24.  However, Pensacola Christian scored the final two points of the third set to take the set 26-24 and the match 3-0.
 
In the match vs. Pensacola Christian, Gordon registered 28 assists. Lloyd was again a versatile factor both offensively and defensively worth seven kills and 13 digs.  Hannah Jenkins delivered seven kills and Rodriguez recorded 12 digs.
 
The Tornados will wrap up their 2018 campaign with a final home match on Tuesday, October 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
