Tornados Close Season With Setback to Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.Hannah Elmore drove home 10 kills and Maggie Weiss recorded 21 digs, but it was not enough to offset the Covenant trio of Jessica Seehorn (13 kills), Ginny Moore (nine) and Hannah Harris (nine), who led the Scots to a 25-19, 25-20, 25-22 victory in Brevard's season finale on Saturday afternoon.

Joining Elmore among the offensive leaders was Lambert, who tallied eight kills, while Rachel Ruble added two solo blocks and two assisted blocks to assist on defense.

With a 2-0 advantage in the match and its offense in rhythm, due in large part to four kills by Seehorn, Covenant grabbed a 17-10 advantage in the third set. The lead eventually reached eight, 20-12, before four unforced errors by the Scots along with slams from Elmore, allowed Brevard to pull within three, 23-20.

The Tornados would pull no closer as Harris and Allie Jakes added two kills down the stretch to complete the Covenant victory.

Brevard's offense started out strong in the second set, streaking out to a 9-4 lead behind five Scot miscues. Covenant scratched its way back into the game, behind two kills from Storm, as they drew within one, 13-12.

A back-and-forth battle ensued between the two with neither able to pull away by more than one point, until Covenant used kills by Seehorn and Schuler Moore to establish a 19-17 lead. Brevard managed only three points down the stretch as the Scots completed the five-point victory.

After an early four-all deadlock to open the match, Covenant scored nine of the next 13 points to establish a 13-8 advantage on a service ace by Chloe Storm. The Tornados emerged with six unanswered points, with Lambert in serve, converting two Elmore kills in the process to move in front by one.

The two teams battled to three ties before reaching a 16-all deadlock before Covenant used kills from Seehorn and Moore to move in front 21-18. A late Tornado timeout was not enough to derail the Covenant offense, which converted three points on unforced Brevard errors to earn the six-point win.
