Volleyball Season Closes At Covenant

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard volleyball team wraps up its 2017 campaign on Saturday afternoon when it heads to Lookout Mountain, Ga., to square off with Covenant at 2 p.m. The Tornados are looking to avenge a 3-1 setback at the hands of the Scots which came earlier this month.

The Tornados head into the season finale on a three-match winning streak after taking down LaGrange, Maryville and Agnes Scott in succession.

Brevard will certainly rely on senior outside hitter Hannah Elmore, who leads the team with 229 kills (3.32 kills/set). Elmore has topped double figure kills in each of her last eight matches, including her season-high 28-kill outing that came in a four-set win over Agnes Scott on Tuesday evening.

Elmore is one of four Tornados with at least 100 kills, along with Stephanie Lambert (178), Rachel Ruble (136) and Whitney DeMoss (118). That group, along with Josie McElroy who has contributed 665 assists, has helped the Brevard offense average 11.64 kills/set and a .168 attack percentage.

The Tornado defense, highlighted by Maggie Weiss (389 digs), DeMoss (32 total blocks/10 solo blocks) and Ruble (31 assisted blocks), has also been integral to the team's success. Brevard has not allowed an opponent to post a .200 attack percentage in 10 matches, the last being Huntingdon (.202), winning eight of those contests.

Covenant (19-7) is riding an 11-match winning streak which began with a Sept. 30 sweep of Huntingdon. Ginny Moore leads the way for the Scots' offense with 291 kills (3.00 kills/set), along with Schuyler Moore (853 assists), that is averaging 11.81 kills/set.

Moore is also an active defender for the Scots, leading the unit with 421 digs (4.34 digs/set), while teammate Allie Jakes anchors the front row with 74 total blocks, 63 assisted and 11 solo.
