Tornados Face Piedmont on Tuesday

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard volleyball team returns to Boshamer Gym on Tuesday when it hosts Piedmont at 6 p.m. The match will mark the final home contest for the Tornados (8-4) in the 2017 campaign.

It is the first of three matches for Brevard on the week, who head to Berea, Ky., for a tri-match with Huntingdon and the host Mountaineers on Saturday, Oct. 14. With three victories this week it would mark the 12th time since the 2000 season, and second time under head coach Anna Grant, that the Tornados won at least 10 games in a season.

Leading the way for the Tornados' offense are seniors Hannah Elmore (113 kills) and Stephanie Lambert (109). That tandem, along with Rachel Ruble (97 kills) and Josie McElroy (388 assists), have helped Brevard record 463 kills (11.29 kills/set) on the season.

The Brevard defense, which is limiting opponents to a .132 attack percentage, is highlighted by the combination of Whitney DeMoss (19 total blocks), Lambert (17 total blocks), Ruble (17 total blocks) and Maggie Weiss (237 digs).

Piedmont (10-7) has endured a start to October, dropping three of its first four contests with the lone win coming against Huntingdon on Oct. 7. Four Lions have topped 100 kills on the season, including Anna Wright (142), Katelyn Durmire (120), CeCe Cogliano (116) and Kaitlyn Loesel (100), resulting in 11.38 kills/set.

Durmire has also been active on defense with 61 blocks, including 24 solo stops, while the back row is anchored by Haley Hixon (360 digs) and Kaitlyn Loesel (160).
