Brevard falls in four sets to Covenant

BREVARD, N.C.- Despite seniors Stephanie Lambert and Hannah Elmore tallying 20 and 17 points respectively, Brevard dropped the match in four sets to Covenant in Boshamer Gym on Saturday.

Brevard (8-4) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by winning the first set 25-16, but Covenant (12-7) took the next three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-21, 25-16.

Covenant was able to get their offensive production from Hannah Harris (14 kills) and Schuyler Moore (five service aces).

The Tornados were led individually by the combination of Maggie Weiss (16 digs) on defense, with Lambert and Elmore (16 kills) and Josie McElroy (39 assists) on offense.

In the first set Brevard took the early 3-2 lead in the first set off a kill from Bri Vargas, and the Tornados held on to that lead for the rest of the set. The team tallied 17 kills in the first set, the most from either team in the entire match in one set.

After three lead changes and four ties in the second set, Covenant took control after a kill from Moore to make the score 14-12 after Brevard was aiming to tie the score at 13.

In the third set, the Scots held on to a lead for most of the frame, as Brevard never came within two points after Covenant took the 17-14 lead from a kill from Haley Taylor.

Covenant led nearly the entire fourth set, leading by as many as 12 points. The Scots led the kill margin in the final set 10-7.

Brevard will be back in action against Piedmont on October 10th at 6 p.m., their final home match of the season.
