Berea, Huntingdon On The Horizon For Brevard Volleyball

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College volleyball team makes a quick turnaround following its recent victory over Piedmont, facing Berea and Huntingdon on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Ala.

The Tornados, enjoying a two-match winning streak following victories over Emory & Henry and Piedmont, take to the court against Berea at 3 p.m. Brevard follows that with a 5 p.m. clash against host Huntingdon.

Brevard, nearing the end of its first full month of competition, is led on offense by the trio of Rachel Ruble (79 kills), Hannah Elmore (61) and Stephanie Lambert (58). As a result the Tornados have amassed 278 kills (11.12 kills/set) along with a team .155 attack percentage. Individually, Ruble leads the way in attack percentage (.256) and Lambert in kills per set (3.16), among Brevard players with 100 total attacks.

Senior Josie McElroy is also making her impact on the efficiency of the Tornado offense, leading the way for the team with 232 assists (9.38 assists/set). She is also making an impact in the service game, accruing 11 aces, nine off the pace set by Maggie Weiss.

Weiss anchors Brevard's back row defenders with 131 digs (5.24 digs/set), while the tandem of Lambert and Whitney DeMoss lead the front row with 11 blocks, respectively. Lambert has 10 assisted blocks to her credit, while DeMoss leads the way with six solo blocks.

Berea enters the weekend with a 2-7 mark, dropping six straight before posting a 3-0 victory over Boyce on Tuesday evening. The Mountaineers are led statistically by Kristin Barnes (58 kills), Destiney Balser (107 digs) and Isis Hill (18 blocks; 11 assisted blocks).

Huntingdon (6-8) recently fell under .500 after setbacks to LaGrange and Faulkner on Sept. 16. The Hawks were riding a three-match winning streak, all by virtue of sweeps, before falling by 3-0 scores last weekend. Huntingdon has a well-balanced lineup that features Bria Rochelle (101 kills), Alexis Creasman (84) and Amy Tyma (80) on offense, while the defensive efforts are highlighted by Rochelle (116 digs) and Addison Genard (33 total blocks; 24 assisted blocks).
