Tornados Square Off with Piedmont Wednesday

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College volleyball team will play its first of three matches this week on Wednesday when it squares off against Piedmont College at 6 p.m.

The Tornados (4-2) have won four of their last five matches, including a recent four-set victory against Emory & Henry on Sept. 16. Piedmont (5-2) returns to action after an 11-day layoff, splitting its last four matches.

Brevard's offense, which has tallied 224 kills (10.67 kills/set) this season, is led individually by the senior trio of Rachel Ruble (67), Stephanie Lambert (45) and Hannah Elmore (44).

Ruble highlights the Tornados' offense after reaching double figure kills on four occasions, recording a season-high 22 in the victory over Emory and Henry. However, Lambert's 23-kill performance against Salem on Sept. 13, is the best single-match performance by any Brevard player in the campaign.

Maggie Weiss is among the top defensive performers for the Tornados this season, leading the way with 103 digs. Weiss has topped double-digit digs in five of her six matches, recording a season-high 31 in a five-set victory against Salem.

The front row combination of Lambert and Whitney DeMoss, who have 11 total blocks apiece, also rank among defensive leaders. Lambert's best outing came against Pfeiffer (four assisted blocks), while DeMoss highlighted a win against Emory & Henry with a season-high four solo blocks.

Brevard will look to slow a well-balanced Piedmont offense, which has recorded 302 kills (12.58 kills/set). The Tornado defense will focus specifically on the combination of Anna Wright (57 kills), Katelyn Durmire (51) and CeCe Cogliano (50).

Brevard's offense will be tasked with penetrating the Lions' defense that is guided by Haley Hixon (138 digs) and Durmire (19 total blocks).
