Tornados Earn Saturday Split at Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. – The Brevard College volleyball team earned a split in pair of Saturday afternoon matches at Emory & Henry. The Tornados, who fell in the opening match to Washington & Lee by a 3-0 margin, rebounded to earn a 3-1 win over the host Wasps in the evening session.

Rachel Ruble led the Tornado offensive attack against Washington & Lee, posting 11 of the team's 22 total kills. She was joined by Hannah Jenkins (four kills) and Hannah Elmore (three) on the front row.

Maggie Weiss continued to be the defensive leader for Brevard, recording 22 digs, while Whitney DeMoss made two blocks.

Brevard (4-2) rebounded from its loss to the Generals by earning a four-set victory over Emory & Henry in the second match. The Tornados' combination of Ruble (22 kills) and Elmore (11) highlighted an offense that posted 44 kills and a .216 attack percentage. Teammate Josie McElroy quarterbacked the offense with 44 assists.

Weiss was instrumental in shutting down the Emory & Henry offense with her team-high 25 digs, while Kasey West (11), Kat Beasley (10) and Bri Vargas (10) reached double-digit digs as well.

DeMoss was also active on defense, contributing four blocks, while Vargas, Elmore and Ruble added one each to give the Tornados seven in the match.

The Tornados return to action Wednesday, Sept. 20, when they head to Piedmont College for a 6 p.m. match.
