Women’s Tennis Blanks Berea in Season Opener

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's tennis team (1-0, 1-0 USAS) dominated USA South Conference foe Berea College, 9-0, on Saturday at the McCoy Tennis Complex.

BC jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play with an 8-0 win by the number one doubles team comprised of seniors Jen Cox and Margaret Correll.  The number-three doubles team of Brooke Garland and Alli Kogoy also did not allow a game to their opponent in an 8-0 victory for BC. Lilly Farr and Sarah Iocovozzi combined for an 8-1 win in number two doubles to give the Tornados the 3-0 doubles sweep.

Correll (no. 4 singles) and Iocovozzi (no. 5 singles) each blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 to propel BC to a 5-0 team advantage. Farr (no. 1), Cox (no. 2), Hamrick Perry (no. 3) and Mekenzie Bowman (no. 6) all won their singles matches in straight sets as well.

In total, Brevard outscored Berea 96-10 in games, while not dropping a set, to cruise to the team's season-opening victory.

Next up for the Tornados is a conference road trip at Huntingdon, March 13-14 in Montgomery, Alabama.
