Hot Start Helps BC Women’s Tennis Earn Eighth-Straight Victory

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Brevard College Tornados Women's Tennis team (10-4, 4-0 USAS) earned their eighth consecutive victory of the 2018-19 campaign by downing the Scots of Maryville College (4-7, 2-2 USAS), 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon in Maryville, Tennessee.

Brevard swept through singles to begin the match before jumping out to victories in no. 1, 2, and 3 singles for the conference victory.

Wednesday afternoon's victory clinched the BC Women's Tennis program's first winning record and double-digit win total since the 2011-12 season when the team won 13 games. The Tornados currently sit in a tie for first place in the USA South West Division standings.

BC swept doubles action highlighted by Samantha Sepe and Kelsey Kushner claiming their seventh victory of 2018-19 as a duo with an 8-3 victory in no. 1 singles over Maryville's Kayla Zimmerman and Anastasia Dunn.

The BC no. 3 doubles pairing of Margaret Correll and Eleanor Flannery earned an 8-5 victory, while the no. 2 team of Darden King and Jen Cox pulled out a thrilling, come-from-behind victory over MVC's McKennah Francis and Carter Dickinson, 8-7. The tiebreaker went in favor of the Tornado duo, 8-6.

King and Cox earned their fifth-straight win as a doubles pairing this season, improving their overall record as a duo in 2018-19 to 7-3.

Sepe and King then moved to singles action where they picked up dominant victories to clinch the team win for Brevard.

Sepe claimed her eighth-straight singles victory in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the number-one spot, while King earned her seventh singles match win in a row with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph to clinch the match in favor of Brevard. Cox also earned a singles victory at the number-four spot, defeating Maryville's Dunn, 6-3, 6-1.

The Tornados will look to continue their winning ways when they host Covenant College (5-8, 2-1 USAS) at the McCoy Tennis Complex on Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m. for Senior Day.
