Tornados Roll Past Falcons, 6-3

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados Women's Tennis team (3-4) picked up its second victory in its last three matches as it defeated the Pfeiffer Falcons (1-4) on Saturday afternoon.

Brevard picked up two doubles and four singles victories en route to a 6-3 victory over Pfeiffer in which all nine matches were contested tightly. 

In doubles action, the Tornados' No. 1 duo of Samantha Sepe and Kelsey Kushner handled Pfeiffer's Darby Sherrill and Haylee Dixon, 8-0 to garner BC's first point. 

This was followed up by the pairing of Margaret Correll and Mekenzie Bowman claiming an 8-5 victory in No. 3 doubles. 

BC's No. 2 pairing of Darden King and Jen Cox battled fiercely but ultimately fell to Pfeiffer's Charlotte Craven and Sydney Gray, 6-8, to round out doubles competition. 

Singles action got started when Sepe dominated her No. 1 singles opponent Dixon, 6-0, 6-0, for her second singles victory of the season. 

Kushner was able to extend her singles winning streak to three matches, all against USA South Conference member-institutions, by defeating Sherrill, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 2 singles slot. 

Eleanor Flannery, who remains unbeaten in singles competition in her freshman season, earned BC's fifth point of the match when she defeated Hatley, 6-3, 6-4, in No. 6 singles. 

King wrapped up the afternoon for the Tornados with a lengthy 2.5-hour match against Craven that ended in favor of the Tornados. King took the first set, 6-2, before Craven stormed back, taking set two, 3-6. King earned the victory by claiming set three, 7-5. 

BC's Women's Tennis team is off from match play for 12 days before hosting Spartanburg Methodist College on Thursday, March 14 at 1 p.m. at the McCoy Tennis Complex on the campus of Brevard College.
