BC Women’s Tennis Claims 7-2 Victory over Meredith in Home-Opener

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard College Tornados Women's Tennis team (2-3) collected a 7-2 win over the Meredith Avenging Angels (0-3) to open its Spring home slate on Sunday afternoon at the McCoy Tennis Complex on the campus of Brevard College. The Tornados claimed a well-deserved victory against a Meredith side that made the 2018 USA South Women's Tennis Tournament.

The Tornados swept through doubles play in resounding fashion while picking up four singles victories to secure their second victory of the season. Every Tornado who took the court on Sunday picked up a victory in either singles or doubles action.

Samantha Sepe made her mark in the No. 1 spot for Brevard, recording her first singles and doubles victories in her Brevard College Tornados career. Sepe earned a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory over Meredith's Natalie Collins to kick off singles action for Brevard.

The Tornados picked up three more singles victories, while Meredith claimed two.  

Junior Kelsey Kushner defeated Aly Henneberry 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 slot for the Tornados, which was Kushner's first singles victory of the 2018-19 season.

Darden King picked up her first career collegiate singles victory in thrilling fashion, battling Emily Wilkinson 2-6 and 6-2 through the first two sets before a back-and-forth third set that ended in King's favor, 14-12.

Mekenzie Bowman also earned her first singles victory of the season by defeating Sarah Porter 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, the Tornados continued their dominance by claiming each of the three possible points.

The tandem of Sepe and Kushner claimed an 8-2 triumph over Collins and Henneberry in the No. 1 slot, marking their first victory as a pairing. King and Jen Cox defeated Wilkinson and Alexandria Cheney 8-4, while Margaret Correll and Eleanor Flannery wrapped up doubles action with a comfortable 8-1 decision.

Next up for the BC Women's Tennis team is a trip to Demorest, Ga. alongside the BC Men's Tennis team for a 3 p.m. match against Piedmont College on Monday, February 25. Brevard Women's Tennis plays a Saturday, March 2nd match against Pfeiffer University at 1 p.m. before returning to the McCoy Tennis Complex for a non-conference match against Spartanburg Methodist College on Thursday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
