Tornado Women's Tennis Claims Second Straight Win

BREVARD-MARYVILLE BOXSCORE

MARYVILLE, Tenn.
– The Brevard women's tennis team claimed its fourth win of the season and second in as many matches as the Tornados downed Maryville 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Brevard grabbed the first point of the match when Kelsey Kushner and Jen Cox posted an 8-3 victory over Kayla Zimmerman and Anastasia Dunn. The Scots quickly bounced back with a win by the combination of McKennah Francis and Carter Dickinson, who emerged with an 8-5 triumph against Margaret Correll and Mckenzie Bowman. The Tornados doubles team of Carmen Boone and Hannah Spear won by default.

Spear claimed her second win by default in singles play to give the Tornados their third point of the match. Boone was responsible for the fourth Brevard point, earning a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win against Joyce Coling in the meeting of No. 5 seeds.

Zimmerman picked up the second point of the match for Maryville, posting a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Cox. Kushner then responded to a challenge from Francis, in the battle of No. 1 seeds, fighting back from a 7-6 (7-4) win setback in the opening set to grab 6-0 and 6-1 wins.

With the Brevard team win secured, following Kushner's victory, Maryville claimed its third point when Dunn posted a 6-0, 6-3 win against Bowman. Correll avenged the earlier setback to Dickinson by saving match point in her third set tiebreaker to close out a 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 11-9 victory as Brevard forged in front 4-1.

The Tornados return to the courts this weekend when they host LaGrange (March 30) and Huntingdon (March 31) in Brevard. For more information check out www.bctornados.com.
