MACON, Ga. –
The Brevard women's tennis team completed a unique doubleheader on Saturday, March 24, by competing in two matches in two different states over a 12-hour span, and as a result posted its first 9-0 sweep of the season against Wesleyan College just before midnight.

The doubles team of Carmen Boone and Christiana Beltran earned the first team point of the match as they downed Elizabeth Launi and Meosha Simpson 8-1. Margaret Correll and Mekenzie Bowman quickly followed with an 8-2 victory against YuanYuan Zhang and Idaleen Scoggins. The first-seeded duo of Kelsey Kushner and Jen Cox completed the doubles sweep for Brevard with an 8-3 triumph over Erin Laffey and Centara Nulf.

Boone notched her second win of the evening as she came through with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Launi in the clash of fifth seeds. Beltran followed with the decisive team point, downing Simpson by scores of 6-1, 6-0.

Kushner followed her teammates with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Laffey in the battle of No. 1 seeds, while Cox completed a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Nulf.

Correll closed out a hard fought battle with Zhang by earning a 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 victory of No. 3 seeds. Bowman completed the sweep for the Tornados with a 7-6, 4-6, 13-11 triumph against Scoggins.

COVENANT 9, BREVARD 0

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Earlier in the day, the Brevard women's tennis team fell by a 9-0 score to Covenant in its opening match of the day at the Baylor School Indoor Facility in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The Scots opened the match with a decisive 8-1 win in doubles action by Aly Hall and Jennie Spielman who downed Margaret Correll and Mekenzie Bowman. That was quickly followed by an 8-1 win by Morgan McCain and Masha Lanska against Carmen Boone and Christiana Beltran.

Covenant earned the final point of doubles action when Annie DeLuca and Esther Eddy triumphed 9-8 (8-6) over the Tornado duo of Kelsey Kushner and Jen Cox.

Spielman kept Brevard scoreless in team play as she posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Bowman, while Hall cinched the Covenant victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Kushner.

The Scots added a win in the battle of No. 3 seeds when Eddy posted a 6-1, 6-2 win versus Correll. DeLuca claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Cox, pushing the advantage to 7-0. McCain and Mackenzie Jones claimed wins to complete the team sweep, downing Boone (6-4, 6-1) and Christiana Beltran (6-0, 6-0), respectively.

Brevard returns to the court on Wednesday, March 28 when the Tornados head to Maryville for a 1 p.m. clash.
