Kushner, Spear Grab Singles Victories For Tornados

BREVARD, N.C. –
Hannah Spear earned her third singles win and Kelsey Kushner grabbed her second in the Brevard women's tennis match with Agnes Scott on Tuesday afternoon.

Spear provided the Tornados with their first win of the match when she downed Jacy Pippin by scores of 7-5, 7-5 in a clash of No. 6 seeds. Kushner wrapped up the afternoon with a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 win over Agnes Scott's Taylor Lee.

The Scotties took control of the match early by sweeping the doubles play. Anastasia Bennett and Camille Wilson earned an 8-2 win over the tandem of Margaret Correll and Mekenzie Bowman. Jasmine Keiler and Felicia Jacques followed with an 8-1 victory over the duo of Spear and Carmen Boone.

Agnes Scott earned the third point of the match when the doubles team of Taylor Lee and Lizzy Engsberg came through with an 8-4 win over Kushner and Jen Cox.

Wilson moved the Scotties' lead to 4-0 in the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Boone in the clash of No. 5 seeds. Engsberg clinched the match for Agnes Scott with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Cox, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 win by Bennett over Correll.

Keiler provided Agnes Scott with the seventh point of the match with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Bowman.

The women's team makes a quick turnaround and will host Converse on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
