Tornados Look to Gain Momentum Versus Agnes Scott

BREVARD, N.C. – Four days after completing a 5-4 victory over Maryville, the Brevard women's tennis team will look to build on that momentum when it heads to Decatur, Ga., to face Agnes Scott on Saturday, March 17.

The Tornados, who picked up their first win in the spring season on Tuesday, grabbed the first win of the match with Maryville by virtue of the doubles team of Hannah Spear and Carmen Boone. That combo downed the team of Anna-Katherine Harris and Joyce Coling by an 8-4 margin.

With the match knotted at one-all, Jen Cox and Kelsey Kushner downed Kayla Zimmerman and Anastasia Dunn by a 9-7 margin to provide Brevard with a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Spear pushed the Tornado advantage to 3-1 with her second win of the afternoon, this time downing Coling in singles action 6-2, 6-1. Zimmerman answered with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Cox, keeping the margin at one point, in a battle of second seeds.

Kushner picked up her second win of the match as she triumphed 6-4, 6-1 against McKennah Francis in a meeting of No. 1 seeds. But it was wins by Dunn and Carter Dickinson that brought the match to a climatic 4-4 tie.

Boone responded to the pressure and came through with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Harris in the No. 5 pairings, giving Brevard the 5-4 team win.

Agnes Scott, who hosts Oglethorpe on Friday, is winless in seven matches this season. They have at least least one point in each of their five matches in March and fell by 5-4 margins to Roger Williams (March 11) and St. Norbert (March 12) in matches held in Orlando, Fla., at the U.S. Tennis Association Campus.
