Tornados Open Spring Slate Versus Southern Wesleyan

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard men's and women's tennis teams return to the courts this weekend when they host Southern Wesleyan for their spring openers with both matches set to start at 1 p.m.

The Tornados' men's team played three matches during the fall, squaring off against Johnson C. Smith, Lenoir-Rhyne and Montreat.

Tom Mittring highlighted the fall schedule with two individual wins, downing Desire Johnson (Johnson C. Smith) and Lorward Choi (Montreat). He teamed with Tim Hengst to earn a pair of doubles victories, also against Johnson C. Smith and Montreat. Will Christiansen also picked up a win in the fall slate, posting a 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 victory over David Garcia (Montreat).

Brevard's women's unit played only one match in the fall slate, posting a 5-4 victory over Montreat on Oct. 4. Among the highlights in that match included Jen Cox's first win in collegiate singles competition, when she posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Cierra Hunter. Teammate Margaret Correll opened her collegiate career with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Kaitlyn Thomas.

Cox, who teamed with Kelsey Kushner in doubles play, posted an 8-6 victory later that afternoon. Correll and doubles partner Mekenzie Bowman also played a key role in Brevard's 5-4 match victory against the Cavaliers as they posted an 8-3 win over Kaitlyn Thomas and Emily Wells.

The Warriors open their schedule on Friday, Feb. 2, when they face Anderson.
