Tornados Drop Match to Owls in Swannanoa

SWANNANOA, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (5-10-3) dropped a non-conference road match to Warren Wilson College (6-5-2) in BC's penultimate contest of the 2019 season on Tuesday afternoon in Swannanoa, North Carolina.

Following a 0-0 score through the first half, the host Owls broke out with two goals in the second period to take the victory.

A mostly equal match in several statistical categories, the two teams each registered eight shots with the Owls holding a slight edge (6-5) in shots-on-goal.  The Tornados meanwhile, held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Ashley Royster led the Tornados offensively with two shot attempts, both on frame and requiring a save by Warren Wilson's goalkeeper Susan Lusardi. BC's Emma Gooch also fired off two shots, with neither attempt on goal.

Sallie Riggan, Brenna Innis, Kyndall Cochran, and Michayla Barnes each recorded one shot for the Tornados.

The Tornado defense and goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas (three saves) held the Owls scoreless for the first 53 minutes of the match until Chloe Riess scored a penalty kick to put Warren Wilson up 1-0.  Jazmin Featherstone added an insurance goal for the Owls just two minutes later.

Despite several chances in the final 30 minutes of the match, the Tornados were unable to find the back of the net to cut into the Owls' lead as Warren Wilson held on for the 2-0 victory.

Brevard will play its season finale on Thursday on the road at non-conference foe Toccoa Falls.  First touch is set for 4:30 p.m. in Toccoa, Georgia.
