BREVARD, N.C. – Bob Jones University (9-6) scored a golden goal in the 107th minute to down the Brevard College women's soccer team (5-9-3), 1-0, on Senior Night at Ives-Lemel Family Field on a rain-soaked Friday evening.
The match marked Brevard's final home match of the 2019 season. Brevard women's soccer will conclude its regular season with two-straight road matches.
Brevard's two seniors, Audrey Cardwell and Erica Zufferey, were honored prior to Friday's match as part of the Tornados' Senior Night festivities.
Junior goalkeeper Hannah Weatherall made her first appearance in goal for the Tornados in the 2019 season, saving a total of 12 shots to set a new single-game career-high for the Bourg, Louisiana native.
Brevard's attack was led by Sallie Riggan who let three shots fly. Audrey Cardwell and Aliyah Vaughan each shot the ball twice for the Tornados
The Bruins outshot the Tornados, 25-12 on the evening, including a 14-6 margin on shots-on-frame. Each side conceded three corners, while Brevard was called for 15 fouls compared to Bob Jones' eight.
The Tornados were able to outshoot the Bruins, 8-6 in the first half before Bob Jones let off a barrage of shots – 17 in total – in the second stanza. However, Weatherall and the defense were able to hold strong to force the overtime frame.
Following a scoreless first overtime, the Bruins withstood two Tornado shot attempts early in the second overtime before winning a corner kick. Bob Jones' Mikayla Rajcan's corner found the head of Hannah Johnston, who sent in the game-winner.
Head Coach Juan Mascaro and the Tornados conclude their 2019 season with back-to-back road contests. Brevard first heads to WNC-area opponent Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina on Tuesday, October 29 at 3 p.m., followed by a Halloween trip to Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia on Thursday, October 31 at 4 p.m.
