Brevard and Warren Wilson Draw in Matchup Between WNC-Area Opponents

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados women's soccer team (2-7-3) faced off with local WNC-area opponent Warren Wilson College (5-4-2) on Wednesday evening at Ives-Lemel Family Field, as the two opponents drew, 0-0 in the non-conference matchup. 

The match featured many chances for the Tornados to find the back of the net, as two second-half shots were denied by the crossbar and a penalty kick attempt was saved by Warren Wilson goalkeeper Susie Lusardi (seven saves).

Junior goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas kept a 110-minute clean sheet, stopping a total of nine Warren Wilson shots on the evening. 

Defender Emma White took a game-high five shots to lead the Tornados, while midfielders Sallie Riggan and Amy Juarez each let four shots fly. 

Brevard controlled possession for a majority of the contest, outshooting the Owls 19-11 while winning a total of eight corner kicks compared to Warren Wilson's two. 

From the 14th minute of the competition until halftime, the Tornados shot nine-straight shots with the Owls unable to get a shot attempt off. However, the Warren Wilson defense held strong, sending the match into the break knotted up, 0-0.

Brevard's Juarez and Riggan placed shots that hit off the crossbar within three minutes of each other before the Tornados were awarded a penalty kick. Riggan's PK attempt towards the left corner was stifled by WWC's Lusardi, keeping the match tied at 0-0.

The Tornado combo of Juarez and Riggan both had shot attempts in the final minute that were just off the mark, sending the contest into overtime. 

The Owls of Warren Wilson outshot the Tornados, 3-1 in the two overtime periods, as the match ended in a scoreless draw, 0-0.

The BC women's soccer team returns to action for a USA South Conference weekend doubleheader at Ives-Lemel Family Field. The Tornados first face off against Agnes Scott on Saturday, October 12 at 3 p.m. before hosting Wesleyan College on Sunday, October 13 at 2 p.m.
