BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's soccer team (1-6-2, 0-2 USAS) fell in a USA South Conference game, 1-0 to Piedmont College (7-2-1) Tuesday night at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
Brevard's defense held the Lions to one goal - a 20th-minute penalty - on a night where Piedmont shot the ball 23 times in total.
Junior goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas stopped seven shots on a busy night for the Murrieta, Calif. native, as the Piedmont Lions outshot the Tornados of Brevard, 22-3.
Piedmont's lone goal came in the 20th minute when a Brevard foul in the box turned into a Lions' penalty kick attempt, which was converted when Piedmont's Kaylee King put a shot past Rojas in the left corner to give her team the advantage, 1-0.
The Tornados put together an impressive defensive effort against the defending USA South Conference champion Lions, stifling them to just a single goal despite facing a high shot total throughout the contest.
Piedmont controlled possession with 13 total corner kicks in the match, however, none of the attempts resulted in goals. Brevard recorded seven total saves to Piedmont's two.
In the second half, Brevard College's Audrey Cardwell, Aliviah Holland, and Emma White recorded shots for the Tornados.
Brevard returns to conference play this Friday, October 4 when the Tornados face off vs. the LaGrange Panthers at 3 p.m. in LaGrange, Ga. The Tornados then head to Montgomery, Ala. for a conference match vs. Huntingdon College on Saturday, October 5 at 4 p.m. ET.
