Link's golden goal gave Head Coach Juan Mascaro's Tornados their first victory of the 2019 season and momentum heading into BC's upcoming conference schedule.
Rebeccah Rojas played all 107-plus minutes in goal for the Tornados on Wednesday, stopping six shots on the evening. Rojas has made all seven starts for Brevard thus far in 2019.
Links first career game-winning goal proved to be the lone shot taken by either side in both of the overtime periods. The Murrieta, California native shot four of Brevard's 12 shots on the evening, including three shots-on-target.
Abbie Petrosky (two shots, two shots-on-goal), Ashley Royster (two shots, two shots-on-goal), and Audrey Cardwell (two shots) all fired multiple shots for the Tornados during the match.
Johnson & Wales' attack was led by Brooklyn Cathey, who let three shots fly towards goal - all of which saved by Rojas.
After a back-and-forth first half that saw both teams shoot the ball six times, BC established more of its attack, outshooting the Wildcats 5-3.
Link and Petrosky forced JWU saves on back-to-back chances within the final 5 minutes, but both attempts were turned away. The Wildcats took a shot wide in the final 20 seconds to send the match to its first overtime period.
The Wildcats conceded two corner kicks to the Tornados in the first overtime period, however, Brevard couldn't produce shots with those opportunities. Following two Johnson & Wales substitutions, the contest was bound for its second overtime period.
Neither side mustered much offense through the early stages of the second overtime as the match looked bound to finish in a draw before Link's game-winning strike came at the 107:05 mark unassisted to earn the Tornados their first win of 2019.
The BC women's soccer team returns to action this Saturday, September 28 when the Tornados travel to Lookout Mountain, Ga. for their USA South Conference opener vs. Covenant College (1-4-1). Kickoff from Covenant is set for 4 p.m.
Brevard hosts Piedmont College (6-4-1) on Tuesday, October 1 at 6 p.m. for its USA South Conference home-opener at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
