Brevard College Concludes 2018 Season with Exit at ECAC Championship First Round

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Brevard College Women's Soccer team concluded its record-setting 2018 campaign, falling 4-0 to McDaniel College in the First Round of the ECAC Championship held Saturday in Westminster, Maryland.

After a scoreless opening 19 minutes of the match, the Tornados fell behind 2-0 after a pair of goals (20th min, 23rd min) gave McDaniel a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.  Six minutes into the second half, McDaniel struck again with back-to-back goals (51st, 52nd min) just 62 seconds apart.

The score remained 4-0 from there, as top-seeded McDaniel cruised into the ECAC Quarterfinals which will be played Sunday.

Rebeccah Rojas started in goal for the Tornados and recorded eight saves in 76 minutes played.  She was relieved by Hannah Weatherall, who recorded two saves, for the final 14 minutes of the match.

The ECAC First Round marked the final collegiate match for seniors Ashley Hughes, Caroline David, Megan Shina, Lane Berchtold and Elise Youmans.

Hughes, a Google Cloud Academic All-District performer, set a new Brevard College NCAA-era single-season goals record this season with 19 goals.  She also finished 2018 with 41 points, also a BC NCAA-era single-season recvord.

David finishes her career owning the Brevard College single-season and career assists records, while Hughes and Shina share the school's career points record.

The Tornados matches their highest win total in the school's NCAA-era and also recorded the longest win streak (five games) in BC Women's Soccer this season.
