Ashley Hughes of Brevard College Named Google Cloud Academic All-District

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College student-athlete Ashley Hughes has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).  The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

As a First-Team Academic All-District honoree, Hughes now advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot.  The Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.

Hughes, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., holds a 3.92 grade point average with a major in Health Science Studies and a double-minor in Biology and Chemistry at Brevard College. This season, Hughes has scored a school-record 19 goals to help lead the Tornados to an 11-7 overall record and a berth in the ECAC Women's Soccer Championship.

Off the field, Hughes has been exceptional as a member of BC's honors college which requires significant hours mentoring younger students.  Hughes has been inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Honors Society, the Alpha Chi National College Honors Society and the Beta, Beta, Beta Biology Honors Society.

Hughes also serves as a tutor in the Education Learning Commons for Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, and Chemistry.  She is a Senior Resident Assistant and serves as Secretary for Brevard's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  Hughes also has been very active in community service, most notably assisting the Bread of Life food bank and community kitchen.

Hughes and the 2018 Brevard College Tornados advanced to the postseason with a berth to the ECAC Women's Soccer Championship.  The Tornados will play McDaniel College in the opening round of the 16-team tournament on Saturday, November 10 at 11 a.m. in Westminster, Maryland.
