Brevard Falls Short Against USA South Opponent Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Brevard College Women's Soccer team (7-3, 3-1) dropped its first USA South match of 2018, falling to Piedmont College (8-3-1, 3-0) by a final score of 2-0 on Wednesday evening. This result marked the first time that Head Coach Juan Mascaro's squad had been shut out all season. Piedmont improves to a daunting 7-0 in home contests this season.

The Piedmont Lady Lions scored one goal in each half, finding the back of the net in the 25th minute before adding onto their advantage in the 80th minute.

BC was outshot 18-10 in the match, as Piedmont controlled the attack for a majority of the contest. Piedmont's possession control was exemplified by their 6-1 corner kick advantage.

Two-time USA South Defensive Player of the Week Hannah Weatherall (3-1-0) suffered her first loss starting in goal this season. She logged 90 minutes of action, tallying 10 saves in the process.

The Tornados only found the frame with three of their shots, as Ashley Hughes, Megan Shina, and Erica Zufferey each sent a shot on goal during this match. Piedmont held the SOG advantage 12-3 during the contest.

Piedmont Lady Lion's midfielder Sara Weber beat Weatherall one-on-one for an easy first-half score. The Lions held a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime and held firm throughout the second half. Samantha Ishee curled in a corner kick in stunning fashion to extend the Piedmont lead to 2-0 late in the contest. BC was unable to recover from the deficit and suffered the winning-streak ending defeat.

Brevard's winning streak ends at five games, setting a new program NCAA-era record for consecutive games won.

The Brevard College Women's Soccer team returns to Ives-Lemel field on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. for a matchup with USA South opponent Covenant.
