BREVARD, N.C. –
Brevard assistant women's soccer coach Octavia Saunders has signed a deal to compete on the pitch this summer for the Asheville City Soccer Club, a semi-professional team that will compete in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL).

Formed in 1998, the WPSL is the largest women's soccer organization in the world, with over 100 teams competing across the United States. With a mission to promote and develop independent women's soccer at the highest level, the WPSL has fostered players from some of the nation's top collegiate programs including the likes of Notre Dame, UNC, NC State and Stanford among others.

Saunders, who is in her third year on the coaching staff at Brevard, played collegiate soccer at University of Montevallo, where she started in every Falcons' match during her four-year career and served as captain for her final two.

While playing at Montevallo, Saunders made a lasting impact on the program as a senior where she was named the athletic department's DeWayne Peevy Award winner, given annually to the individual who exemplifies school spirit.

She started every match over the course of her collegiate career, and as a senior netted two goals and finished with four points on the season. The three-time Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll member scored two goals came against Lander and Georgia College, where she combined for 10 shots, including three shots on goal. Saunders also had a solid outing against Georgia Southwestern and Georgia College, where she recorded four shots in each contest.

The Devon, England native has coaching experience coaching two international youth soccer clubs helping with development of skills and running game day operations.
