Brevard match against Shaw ends in a draw

BREVARD, N.C.- Brevard women's soccer played a tightly contested match against Shaw on a rainy Saturday afternoon, as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Both teams battled the rain for 110 minutes, but neither team was able to get a shot on goal in overtime as the match ended in a tie.

Courtney Perkins got the start at goalkeeper, as she recorded four saves while allowing just one goal in 64 minutes of action. On offense, Sydney Alencewicz and Ashley Hughes each recorded goals in the match.

The first half ended with both teams tied at zero, as Perkins recorded two saves while Shaw goalkeeper Shianne Duplantis turned back three shots.

Brevard broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute, as Alencewicz bended a shot into the net off a free kick from just outside the right side of the box.

In the 64th minute, Shaw answered by way of a Chloe Cavness goal coming off the assist from Leslie Mendoza to tie the match at one.

Brevard retook the lead in the 76th minute, as Hughes found the back of the net on a header from the corner kick from Mai Sakuma.

Three minutes later, Mendoza tied the match as she found the back of the net off a deflected ball.

Regulation ended with Brevard leading the shot differential 19-9, as well as recording more shots on goal (9-5).

In both overtime periods, neither team was able to record a shot on goal, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. This is the first draw by Brevard since October 22nd, 2015.

The Tornados close out the season on October 31st as they host Warren Wilson at 7 p.m.
