Brevard records another shut out in victory over Berea

BEREA, Ky.- Brevard women's soccer notched their sixth shut out of the season in their 3-0 win over Berea Saturday afternoon.

Brevard goalkeeper Elise Youmans recorded her first start of the season, and helped the defense limit Berea (1-13) to just two total shots and one shot on goal in the match.

The Tornados (9-6) were led on offense by Sarah Rhoades, Caroline David, and Sydney Alencewicz, who all recorded goals in the match. Brevard also tallied double-digit shots (15) for the 12th time this season.

Brevard opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, as Rhoades scored her first goal of the season to give the Tornados the early advantage.

In the second half, David found the back of the net in the 48th minute off an assist from Megan Shina to increase the lead to two goals.

The final goal came in the 86th minute, as Alencewicz buried a shot off an assist from Mai Sakuma to make the score 3-0.

With the win, Brevard has ensured the team will finish with at least a .500 winning percentage for the first time since the program moved to the NCAA ranks in the 2008 season.

Brevard will return to action tomorrow against Wesleyan (Ga.) at Ives-Lemel Field at 11:30 a.m.
