Shina's late goal propels Brevard to 3-2 win over Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- Brevard women's soccer beat Methodist on a late goal in Fayetteville Saturday afternoon.

Junior Megan Shina found the back of the net in the 82nd minute to help improve Brevard's record on the season to 5-2-0.

The Methodist defense gave Brevard all they could handle, as the Tornados were only able to shoot six total shots in the match.

Methodist's Capri Clark began the scoring in the match in the 20th minute, with a ball she floated over goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas.

The Tornados tied up the match with a goal from Lane Berchtold in the 24th minute, her first goal of the season.

In the second half, Clark scored her second goal of the match for the Monarchs in the 62nd minute.

Brevard was able to tie the game on an own goal from Methodist in the 69th minute.

With just over eight minutes remaining Shina netted the final goal of the match, proving to be the final goal in a 3-2 decision.

Rojas recorded a career-high nine assists on the match, while the Brevard defense only allowed five shots on goal in the second half.

With the win today, Brevard has now won three straight matches for the first time since September 2016, when they started the season 3-0-0.

Brevard's next match will be September 26 at 6 p.m. against Maryville (Tenn.).
