Danville, Va.- The Brevard women's soccer team held off Averett late to come away with a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Tornados opened up the scoring with a goal from Megan Shina in the 29th minute.

After being held in check over the next 50 minutes of the match, senior Sydney Alencewicz scored her second goal of the season in the 81st minute to give the Tornados a 2-0 advantage.

Just over three minutes later, Averett's T'era Brown scored her first goal of the season to cut the deficit in half.

The Tornados, behind a solid defensive showing, emerged with a 2-1 win.

Brevard (2-0-0) will take on Ferrum on Sunday at 1 p.m.
