Women's soccer tops St. Andrews for first win of the season

LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Brevard women's soccer team beat St. Andrews 3-0 on Saturday evening to earn their first win of the season.

In her first collegiate start, Brevard goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas notched three saves to add to the shutout.

On offense, the Tornados were able to net three goals on senior St. Andrews goalkeeper Rachel Widdicks.

The Tornados began their scoring with a goal by junior Caroline David in the 38th minute, on an assist from Sydney Alencewicz.

Just over three minutes later, Megan Shina added a goal of her own to give the Tornados a two goal edge.

In the second half, Mai Sakuma connected with Ashley Hughes for another goal in the 81st minute to make the score 3-0.

This match marks the first shutout recorded by Brevard women's soccer since September 9, 2016.

The Tornados will return to action at Averett on September 9.
