MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Brevard College Tornados Women's Lacrosse team (6-3, 3-1 USAS) picked up its third-straight USA South Conference victory with a tight, 7-6 final at Huntingdon College (1-7, 0-4 USAS) on Sunday afternoon.

Senior midfielder Hunter Denney tallied three goals alongside Micaiah Vacchiano, who tallied a pair. Freshman Hannah Scharf added a goal and an assist, while Jezika Gunter scored one goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Katherine Collins (6-3) anchored BC's defense by saving nine shots while snagging a team-high seven ground balls. Scharf and Morgan Graham each recorded three ground balls, while Scharf also caused two turnovers,

The Hawks were paced by a four-goal performance from Shelby Martin. Huntingdon's Alex Teague caused disruption defensively with three caused turnovers.

Despite the Hawks nearly doubling BC's shot total (29-15), the Tornados held firm on the defensive side. Brevard took advantage of its free position attempts, converting 4-of-5 for goals compared to the Hawks, who only mustered 1-for-6.

Huntingdon scored twice within the first eight minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. However, the Tornados were able to storm back, as Denney and Vacchiano tied the contest up, 2-2.

Huntingdon's Martin gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead, which proved to be its last of the contest. Brevard scored five unanswered goals to retake the lead, 7-3. Gunter, Vacchiano, and Denney each scored before halftime, while Scharf and Denney tallied goals in the first six minutes of the second half.

Both sides were locked into a defensive battle for the final 20 minutes of action, with the Hawks finding the back of the net twice to cut BC's lead to 7-5.

Martin was fouled with just 1:57 left to play as she converted Huntingdon's lone free position attempt of the contest.

The Tornados buckled down after this Hawk goal, forcing two Huntingdon turnovers in the last two minutes of action. BC converted a clear with 21 seconds remaining, clinching its third-straight victory in thrilling fashion, 7-6.

BC Women's Lacrosse enjoys 10 days off of game action before it returns for a USA South Conference test on the road in Demorest, Ga. against Piedmont College (2-5, 1-1 USAS) on Wednesday, March 27 at 6 p.m.
