Siu Nets Nine Goals in 21-7 Brevard Win

BREVARD, N.C.Nina Siu scored nine goals and Victoria Hayes added six to help the Brevard women's lacrosse team earn a 21-7 win over Felician on Tuesday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Field.

Siu, who tallied at least four goals for the fourth time this season, established her career-high as she now leads all Tornado scorers with 28 goals. Hayes' six-goal outing ties her career best, previously set against Reinhardt on April 4, 2017, and has now scored at least three goals on four occasions in 2018.

Brevard, which picked up its second win of the season against five losses, also received multiple goals from Hunter Denney (three) and Kelly Kearnan (two). The remaining goal of the afternoon came from Macaiah Vacchiano.

Senior netminder Shelby Arsenault picked up her second win of the season in goal, finishing with six saves, including five in the second half.

The Tornados stormed out to a 3-0 lead behind three unanswered goals from Siu, Denny and Hayes inside the first 3:30 of the opening frame. Felician answered with an unassisted strike by Malikah Croom, but three goals from Hayes and two off the stick of Siu allowed Brevard to assume an 8-2 advantage at the 14:56 mark of the half.

Christianna Louzan tacked on the third Golden Eagle goal of the game, but two strikes by Siu and Denny allowed Brevard to reach double figures, 10-3. Felician added its fourth point of the period, a man-up goal by Jashima Brathwaite, before back-to-back goals by Kearnan and Siu resulted in a 12-4 Tornado lead.

Louzan tacked on her second goal of the half with 39 seconds remaining, briefly trimming the margin to seven, but Hayes answered with her fifth strike of the contest to make for a 13-5 Tornado lead at the intermission.

Siu was back on the offensive to open the second half scoring the first point just 49 seconds in on a free position attempt. Kearnan netted her second score of the day, stretching the margin to 15-5, but Louzan answered at the 25:30 mark to make for a nine-goal advantage by the Tornados.

Siu struck again at the 22:10 mark, netting a short-handed goal, but the Golden Eagles bounced back with their second man-up conversion of the game when Winnie Huang drove home a pass from Brathwaite.

The Brevard defense held Felician scoreless over the final 18 minutes of the contest, while the offense remained aggressive with five goals during that stretch. Siu added two goals for the Tornados, while Hayes and Kelly Wilkins combined for the 19th point of the game with 9:30 remaining.

Denny drove home the 20th goal of the game for the Tornados, who have now topped double 20 for the fifth time in program history and the second time this season. Kearnen then teamed with Vacchiano for the final goal and the 14-point win.

Brevard returns to action on Saturday, March 10, when it hosts Averett at 12 p.m. at Ives-Lemel Field.
