Tornados, Falcons Meet Saturday Afternoon

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard women's lacrosse team looks to maintain the offensive momentum set during a program record 26-goal outing against Salem on Wednesday when it treks to Meisenheimer, N.C. for a clash with Pfeiffer on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Tornados (1-4) are looking for back-to-back wins for the first time since downing Catawba (11-10) and Montreat (25-2) during a stretch of mid-April in 2015. In its last outing, Brevard eclipsed the 20-goal mark for the fourth time in program history and established the new program record for single game goals while posting the first victory by shutout as it downed Salem 26-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

The 26-goal outburst topped the previous record (25) which was set on April 12, 2016 against Montreat. Brevard's first 20-goal outing came against Lincoln Memorial (April 4, 2015) and was quickly followed by a 20-10 win against North Greenville (April 21, 2015).

Victoria Hayes, Nina Siu and Micaiah Vacchiano led the way for the Brevard (1-4) offensive attack by scoring four goals each. In total there were eight multi-goal scorers for the Tornados, including Kelly Kearnan (three), Hunter Denney (two), Jezika Gunter (two), Kaylee McRae (two) and Kelly Wilkins (two). Kearnan enjoyed a solid all-around performance, scoring seven points as she notched a team-high four assists.

The four-goal outing by Siu allows her to maintain a 15-14 edge in goals on the season over her teammate Hayes. Vacchiano climbed to third with seven on the campaign.

Arsenault, who made three saves in the win over Salem, has 46 saves (40.7 save percentage) in five games.

Pfeiffer (2-1), who last played Sunday against Piedmont, is coming into the game with a victory as well. The Falcons emerged with a 17-6 victory due in large part to Molly O'Freil. O'Friel tied the program record with nine goals and needed just 10 shots to achieve that feat. O'Friel added nine ground balls, six caused turnovers and five draw controls in the dominating performance.

O'Freil leads the team with 17 goals on the season with teammate Meagan Bourque contributing 12. Sam Hanlon has been the primary goalkeeper for Pfeiffer, making 19 saves (42.2 save percentage).
