Victoria Hayes Records Hat Trick in Setback

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- Senior Victoria Hayes notched her third multi-goal game of the season, but it was not enough to overcome Methodist, as Brevard suffered the 15-7 setback on Saturday afternoon.

Following Hayes, Nina Siu (two goals), Kelly Kearnan (one) and Micaiah Vacchiano (one) also tallied goals in the contest for Brevard. The Monarchs' Monti Hendrix led all players with five goals on eight shots.

Brevard (0-3) was in a back-and-forth battle in the first half, as the Tornados held a lead on two separate occasions. The first lead of the game for the Tornados came with 16:36 remaining in the first half when Kearnen fired a shot to take the 4-3 lead.

The last lead of the game for Brevard came at the 14:33 mark of the first half when Hayes netted a free position shot to make the score 5-4. Methodist (1-1) was able to close the first half with the 7-6 lead, when Hendrix found the back of the net with six seconds remaining in the first frame.

The Monarchs played stifling defense in the second half, limiting the Tornados to just one goal in the final 30 minutes, coming off the stick of Siu with 6:28 remaining. Emily Brennan highlighted the second half for Methodist, as she scored three of her four goals in the final 20 minutes, and recorded her lone assist of the game on the contest's last goal from Madison Ronelli.

Brevard will return to Ives-Lemel field next Saturday for their next game, as the team will take on Greensboro at 2:00 p.m.
