BREVARD, N.C. – Samantha Tuller netted seven goals while Jaclyn Berry and Angelica Makoski added four each to lead the way for a University of Cumberlands unit that earned a 22-4 victory over Brevard in women's lacrosse action on Tuesday evening at Ives-Lemel Field.

Tuller, who took 13 shots on goal, was responsible for 10 points on the evening as she also handed out three assists. Berry added four assists, finishing with eight points, while Makoski contributed one assist to close with five points.

The University of Cumberlands (1-0) had five players score multiple goals, including Katherine Brewer and Shea West, who tallied two each. Teammate Emily Heim tied Berry for the team-high lead in assists (four) as she finished with five points (one goal) on the evening.

Victoria Hayes led the way for Brevard, who slipped to 0-2 on the season, by scoring two goals on the evening. Joining her with goals for the Tornados were Kelly Kearnan and Micaiah Vacchiano, who netted one goal each.

Cumberland established itself early in the contest with two goals by Brewer and Makoski, grabbing a 6-0 lead at the 20:53 mark of the first half. Hayes got Brevard on the scoreboard with an unassisted strike, but the Patriots followed with four unanswered goals as they assumed a 10-1 advantage.

Hayes again provided the Tornados with a goal, also unassisted, but two goals from Tuller and one each from Berry and Makoski allowed the University of Cumberlands to take a 15-2 lead into the intermission.

Emily Heim and Tuller teamed up for a goal to kickoff scoring in the second half. Kearnan found the back of the net for the Tornados, marking the third goal of the contest for Brevard, but Tuller scored three of the next Patriot goals as the University of Cumberlands moved in front 21-3.

Vacchiano and Penina Fungalei worked together for the final Brevard goal, at the 1:30 mark, and the Patriots closed the contest with a goal by Berry on a pass from Makoski.

The Tornados return to the field on Saturday, Feb. 17, when they trek to Methodist for a 1 p.m. clash with the Monarchs.
