Tornado Women Return to Links

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard women's golf team returns to the course this weekend when it heads to Roebuck, S.C. to compete in the Converse Spring Invitational.

The three-day tournament will take place at the Carolina Country Club, which features a 5,881-yard, par 72 course.

It is the first event of the spring for the Tornados, who competed in two fall events. The first was the Converse Invitational, where Brevard placed 11th, and the second was the Tusculum Bob Dibble Classic, which resulted in a sixth place finish.

Kelsie Rhyne posted her second top 20 outing of the season and tallied a 161 to finish in 10th at the Tusculum Bob Dibble Classic.

Rhyne, who opened the season by placing 17th at the Converse Fall Invite, carded rounds of 83 and 78 to lead the way for the Tornados at the Links Hill Golf and Country Club. Furthermore, she was one of nine players to score in the 70s in the second round of action.

Rhyne finished 15 shots off the pace set by Katie Tomassoni, who captured the tournament for the host Pioneers by one stroke (146, +2) over teammated Ciara Rattana (147, +3).

Courtney Sharp also came through with a solid performance for Brevard, scoring an 89 and 84 (173, +29) as she finished in a three-way tie with Tusculum College's Sayre Hopper and Kelsey Haun. Teammate Taylor Scovel closed out the event in 24th, after firing rounds of 83 and 93 (176, +32).

Ashley Holland (101-93—194, +50) and Rachel Byrd (105-107—212, +68) completed the card for the Tornados by finishing 32nd and 35th, respectively.
