BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women's basketball team (2-4) will look to get back to its winning ways when the Tornados face off against local Western North Carolina opponent Warren Wilson College (2-2) on Monday evening at the Boshamer Gymnasium. Tip-off for this non-conference showdown is slated for 7 p.m.
The Brevard College Department of Athletics will be collecting toys at the gate that will later be donated to the Mission Hospital's Pediatric Cancer Unit.
The Tornados opened USA South Conference play last Saturday, November 30, where Brevard dropped a narrow, 61-47 decision to the visiting LaGrange College Panthers. Junior guard Shakirah Thompson led the way for Brevard's offense with 12 points, draining four 3-pointers in the matchup.
Sophomore center Avery Lockwood added 10 points, four boards, and three steals, while junior forward Deja Riddick stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, eight rebounds, and a game-high six assists in Saturday's matchup.
Thompson has maintained her status as Brevard's leading scorer through the 2019-20 season's first six contests. The Atlanta native is averaging 10.5 points-per-game while shooting a 30% mark from long range. Over the course of BC's first six contests, Thompson has averaged 2.7 made 3-pointers in each contest, while the Tornados are hitting an average of 6.5 long-range attempts-per-game.
Warren Wilson's offense is helmed by a pair of juniors, as Kalie Mayo leads the Owl attack by posting a team-best 16.3 points-per-game, while junior forward Danielle Hinkelman has averaged 12.3 points-per-contest, while also grabbing eight rebounds-per-game.
As a team, the Owls are averaging 61.3 points-per-game to Brevard's 54.2, and are slightly out-rebounding the Tornados, 44.3 to 39.5.
Following Monday's matchup against Warren Wilson, the Tornados host a USA South doubleheader on Saturday, December 7 that will wrap up home action for the 2019 calendar year. Brevard's women's team plays host to Wesleyan College at 2 p.m., with the Tornado men's team following up with a contest against Berea College, scheduled for an approximate tip-off time of 4 p.m. at the Boshamer Gymnasium.
Sandwiched in-between BC's two home games this week is a mid-week trip to Maryville, Tennessee to face Maryville College on Wednesday, December 4 at 6 p.m.
