BREVARD, N.C. - Senior center Krysta Davis scored a career-high 18 points and junior forward Deja Riddick grabbed 16 rebounds for a new career-high mark, but the Brevard College women's basketball team (1-2) were dropped by the visiting Methodist University Monarchs (1-2), 61-47, on Sunday afternoon at the Boshamer Gymnasium.

Davis' 18 points led all scorers, while Riddick's 16 boards - 11 of which coming on the offensive glass - led all players in the game. Riddick's night also included a game-high five steals for the junior from Norfolk, Virginia.

Davis, a senior from Charlotte, North Carolina, shot an efficient 6-of-8 from the field, including a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Shooting percentage was the deciding factor in the Sunday afternoon contest, as the Monarchs posted an 18-of-45 mark from the field (40%) compared to Brevard's 17-of-68 clip (25%). Methodist had a successful day from 3-point land, knocking down 8-of-17 shots beyond-the-arc (47%) compared to just 3-of-24 from the Tornados (12.5%).

Brevard shot a high percentage from the charity stripe, knocking down 10-of-13 from the free-throw line (77%) to Methodist's 17-of-29 mark (59%).

Both teams battled tightly through the first quarter, with Methodist holding a slim 15-14 lead with 1:09 left in the first period. However, the Monarchs scored five-straight points to take a 20-14 lead after the first quarter.

A Mekindia Martin 3-pointer made the score 24-22 in favor of Methodist with 6:54 left in the second quarter, however, the Monarchs ended the stanza on a 12-3 scoring run to take a 36-25 halftime lead.

The Monarchs extended their lead to a game-high 20 points at the 2:36 mark in the third quarter, a quarter where Methodist outscored Brevard, 15-6.

Brevard attempted to cut into Methodist's lead, scoring the first six points of the fourth quarter within the first two minutes of the period. However, both teams went the next four and a half minutes without scoring a point, with Methodist's Tyzarea Alexander breaking the scoreless drought at the 3:23 mark with a two-point field goal that made the score 53-37 in favor of the Monarchs. Brevard outscored Methodist from that point, 10-8, over the remainder of the contest as the Monarchs finished off their 61-47 victory.

The Tornados will now gear up for a doubleheader with the men's team vs. Bob Jones University. The women's squad will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, while the men's team will begin shortly after at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The doubleheader marks the first games of Brevard College Athletics' Toy Drive and will serve as BC basketball's Faculty & Staff Appreciation games.
