MACON, Ga. - The Brevard College Women's Basketball team (7-7, 3-5 USAS) defeated Wesleyan College (0-12, 0-5 USAS) in resounding fashion 98-25 on Saturday afternoon in a USA South Conference contest played at Central Georgia Technical College.
Sophomore Deja Riddick, freshman Breanna Ware and sophomore Victoria Green each registered career scoring highs as six Tornados scored in double figures. Riddick scored a career-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field. Ware shot a highly efficient 6-of-7 from the field to notch her new career high of 13 points. Green hit two three-pointers en route to a career-high 11 points to go along with a career-best seven rebounds.
Destiny Williams (15 pts) and Annalee Bollinger (11 pts) also scored in double figures as did Avery Lockwood who recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Brevard controlled the game for the opening tip, jumping out to a 13-2 lead with all five Tornado starters scoring in the first five minutes of play. BC then quickly put the game out of reach, taking a 25-5 lead into the end of the first quarter.
BC continued its dominance in the second quarter, outscoring the Wolves 22-7 in the stanza to take a 47-12 advantage into halftime. Ware heated up in the second quarter and led all scorers with 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting in the opening half.
The third quarter was more of the same as Brevard outscored Wesleyan 21-4 to establish a 68-16 lead after three periods.
BC then outscored WC 30-9 in the final period to conclude the contest just one field goal shy of the century mark.
In total, ten different Tornados scored in the contest as Head Coach Donald Hudson's reserves saw considerable playing time. Brevard's bench players totaled 35 points, compared to zero points from the Wesleyan reserves.
BC outshot WC 51% to 19% while dominating the glass 56-35 in total rebounds and 19-9 in offensive rebounds. In addition to Lockwood (10 rebs) and Green (7 rebs), Krysta Davis (7 rebs), Ware (6 rebs), Riddick (rebs) and Emily Fisher (5 rebs) all put up substantial rebounding numbers.
The dominant win came following back-to-back one-point USA South Conference losses for the Tornados. On Wednesday, Jan 2, BC fell to Berea 61-60 at home followed by a 56-55 overtime road defeat to LaGrange on Friday night.
The stretch of five consecutive conference road games continues with a trip to Tennessee on Saturday, Jan. 12 when the Tornados visit Maryville for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
