GAME NOTES: MARYVILLE

BREVARD, N.C. – The surging Brevard College Tornados Women's Basketball team (5-1, 1-0 USAS) is set to square off with the Maryville College Scots (1-5, 1-1 USAS) in a key early-season conference bout at the Boshamer Gymnasium. The action is slated for Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Tornados are currently enjoying their best start to a season in program NCAA-era history, jumping out to a 5-1 record anchored by a 4-0 mark within the friendly confines of the Bosh.

Maryville comes into action on Wednesday after securing its first win of 2018-19, defeating LaGrange  78-55. The Scots faced a tough non-conference slate including matches against two top-25 teams (D3Hoops.com poll) in the country. Maryville hosted No. 15 Emory & Henry to open the season before squaring off with No. 4 Thomas More in the Julie Costello Memorial Classic.

Brevard brings its league-leading offense into action on Wednesday. Brevard's 75.3 points per game are tied with Greensboro for first in the USA South Conference. The Tornados are also shooting 33.6% from long range, good enough for second.

BC's defense has been key as well, as the Tornados are holding opponents to a league-best 51.8 points per game. Brevard has also committed the fewest turnovers per game (14.2) in the USA South thus far.

Senior guard Annalee Bollinger and sophomore forward Destiny Williams continue to rank amongst the league's top scorers in 2018-19. Bollinger's 15.5 points per game rank sixth in the conference, while Williams' 15.0 points per game rank eighth.

Freshman Avery Lockwood was recently named USA South Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending on December 2. Lockwood propelled the Tornados to a 3-0 week behind 12.3 rebounds per game in Brevard's three-game stretch.

After Brevard's contest with Maryville, the Tornados will hit the road for back-to-back USA South road contests against Agnes Scott on Saturday followed by Huntingdon on Sunday.
