Record-Setting Second-Half Helps Women’s Basketball Dominate Season Opener

TOCCOA, Ga. – The Brevard College Tornados Women's Basketball team (1-0) opened its season up in emphatic fashion with an 89-43 victory against Toccoa Falls College.

The 89-43 win set a new Brevard College NCAA-era record for widest margin of victory. The 46-point triumph supplanted the previous mark set last season against William Peace (33-point victory).

The Tornados enjoyed a fantastic night in all facets of the game, shooting at a 46.5% clip from the field (33-71) while forcing 25 turnovers and accumulating 13 steals. Brevard had five players reach double-digit scoring figures in the contest.  

BC also outrebounded Toccoa Falls by a whopping 44-27 margin in the contest.

Senior guard Annalee Bollinger led the way for the BC offense. Bollinger tallied a game-high 20 points in the contest, shooting 73% from the field (8-11). Bollinger also contributed from deep, knocking in four three-pointers.

Sophomore guard Ty'She Washington tacked on 13 points to the Tornados effort along with three rebounds.

Sophomore forward Destiny Williams opened up her 2018-19 season in style, notching a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, eight coming on the offensive glass.

Sophomore guard Taryn Ledford also contributed heavily to the Tornados' reserve efforts. Ledford racked up 14 points along with four three-pointers.

The Tornados collectively shot 56.5% from deep on the night. BC also held an astonishing 19-4 assist advantage, showing great collective ball movement.

Toccoa Falls kept the game tight entering halftime, with BC clinging to a 37-30 advantage. However, Brevard would go on an astonishing 52-13 second-half run which included runs of 20-1 and 18-0 to close out the contest.

The red-hot BC offense will return home for its first game at Boshamer Gymnasium when the Tornados take on Berry College on Thursday, November 15 at 6 p.m.
