Women’s Hoops Concludes Season Against Pfeiffer

BREVARD, N.C. – The Brevard women's basketball team wraps up the 2017-18 campaign this weekend when it hosts Pfeiffer in a pair of contests at Boshamer Gym on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

The first game will take place on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and the two teams return to the court on Saturday at 4 p.m., which includes Tornado Senior Day festivities. Brevard will recognize the careers of seniors Whitney DeMoss, Jade Napier and Kelsie Rhyne at that point.

With two wins this weekend, the Tornados (11-12) have the opportunity to post their first winning season since moving to the NCAA ranks in 2008-09. Brevard has already eclipsed the most wins in a single-season in its brief NCAA history, which was nine (2009-10).

The two teams met on Saturday, Feb. 17, with the Falcons emerging with a 69-65 victory in Meisenheimer. The Tornados were led by Destiny Williams, who finished with a double-double and led Brevard in scoring with 14 points, sinking four field goals and shooting 6-of-9 at the free throw line. Fellow freshman Ty'She Washington also notched a double-double, scoring 13 points on 5-of-13 from the floor and hauled in a team-high 13 rebounds.

Brevard (11-12) shot 20-of-65 (30.8%) from the floor and outrebounded Pfeiffer (59-44), but the Tornados turned the ball over 24 times compared to just 13 for the Falcons in the loss. Pfieffer (19-3) was able to score 24 points off turnovers and made 12 more free throws than Brevard over the course of the game.

Junior Annalee Bollinger leads all Brevard scorers with 337 points (14.7 ppg), while DeMoss has anchored the post with 157 rebounds (105 defensive rebounds). The Tornados are averaging 60.6 points per game over 23 games and have hit 36.4 percent from the floor over the course of the season.

Pfeiffer enters the final weekend of action on a six-game winning streak that began with a 73-57 victory over Salem on Jan. 31. The Falcons have topped 80 points in five of their last six contests, including a 91-50 triumph in their contest against Mid Atlantic Christian on Feb. 13.
