Late LaGrange Shot Downs Brevard 44-42

LaGRANGE, Ga.- In her only made shot from the floor, Lauren Johnson put up a shot with one second remaining in the game after an offensive rebound to secure the 44-42 LaGrange victory over Brevard on Saturday afternoon.

Brevard (11-10) trailed by as many as 19 points in the game before storming back to take the 42-40 lead on a Krysta Davis layup with 3:19 to go in the game. Junior guard Annalee Bollinger led all Tornado scorers with 11 points, followed by freshman Deja Riddick (9) and senior Whitney DeMoss (8). DeMoss also led all rebounders with 11 boards in the contest.

Following the made layup from Davis, Marilauren Farr tied the game for LaGrange (11-13) with with 1:20 remaining to go. Farr was the leading scorer in the game, scoring 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

On the next offensive series for Brevard, the Tornados were unable to make a basket despite having three shot attempts inside 54 seconds, as Shakirah Thompson and Ty'She Washington were able to keep the possession alive with offensive rebounds. However, Washington had a layup attempt blocked with 32 seconds remaining to give the ball back to the Panthers in order for them to secure a last-second victory on their senior day.

In the second quarter, LaGrange took their largest lead of the game following a made 3-pointer from Riley Chlupacek to make the score 23-4 with 8:49 remaining in the first half. After that trey, Brevard would go on a 30-10 run that went through the 3rd quarter, as senior Kelsie Rhyne drilled a shot from downtown to take a 34-33 lead with 3:08 remaining in the third quarter.

The setback makes Brevard's record 7-1 on the season in games where the Tornados held their opponents under 50 points.

Brevard will conclude their back-to-back road series at Huntingdon, tipoff from Montgomery, Ala. is set to take place at 2:00 p.m. EST.
