Hot Shooting Leads Brevard Past LaGrange

BREVARD, N.C.- Annalee Bollinger led all scorers with 22 points, which included five 3-pointers, while the team connected on 13 made treys to power past LaGrange 80-62 on Saturday afternoon.

Brevard (10-6) led by as many as 26 points in the contest, as the team knocked down 27-of-57 (47.4%) shots from the floor. The Tornados also tied a season-high with 13 3-pointers in the game, with the other occurance coming in the 95-62 win over William Peace on Jan. 10th. The offense remained balanced the entire afternoon, as 10 of 12 Tornados to enter the game had at least two points.

Followed by Bollinger's 22 points, the Tornados were also led on offense by Jade Napier and Shakirah Thompson who each finished with nine points apiece. Senior Whitney DeMoss led all players with eight rebounds in the game. 

The Tornados jumped out to a commanding 26-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, as Bollinger drilled three shots from downtown, and Ty'She Washington provided a spark off the bench with six points in the frame on 2-of-2 shooting from the field and two made free throws.

Brevard continued to play stifling defense in the game, forcing 16 turnovers and limited LaGrange to only three 3-pointers the whole game. The Tornados also were able to score 17 points off of the 16 Panther turnovers.

LaGrange (8-10) was led by Lauren Johnson on offense with 18 points, followed by Marilauren Farr (8) and Riley Chlupacek (8).

The Tornados will return to action on Jan. 30th, as the team will go on the road for a rematch against Maryville. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

  • Annalee Bollinger reached the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season.
  • Brevard's defense has limited opponents to 50.8 points per game in the teams' 10 wins this season.
  • With 10 wins on the season, this is the first time Brevard women's basketball has reached double-digit wins since the school entered the NCAA ranks in the 2007-08 season.
