Hot Shooting Helps Brevard Top William Peace

RALEIGH, N.C.- Brevard came out firing on all cylinders offensively on Wednesday night to take the 95-62 road victory over William Peace.

The Tornados (7-5) had five players reach double-digit points, led by Ty'She Washington with 17 points as she shot 8-of-11 with one 3-pointer in the game. She was joined in double figures by Deja Riddick (15), Kelsie Rhyne (13), Destiny Williams (12) and Annalee Bollinger (10).

As a team, Brevard recorded season-highs in points (95), field goals (38), 3-pointers (13), shooting percentage (52.1%), 3-point shooting percentage (56.5%) and assists (23) in the win.

For the Pacers (2-8), Mikayla Ray led all scorers with 28 points as she shot 12-of-18 from the floor. Jayde Grant also recorded double-digit points for William Peace, as she scored 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting.

Brevard was red-hot to begin the game, as the team shot 6-of-8 from the floor, highlighted by two made 3-pointers from Rhyne as they would lead 17-6 at the 6:23 mark in the first quarter before a timeout from William Peace. 

Following the quick break, Riddick would go on to have a perfect shooting performance in the first quarter, knocking down 4-of-4 shots which included three treys in just six minutes of action coming off the bench in the first frame.

In the second quarter, the Tornados would apply the pressure on defense, holding the Pacers to just nine points in the frame and only allowed four made shots on 16 attempts. Senior Whitney DeMoss would record 10 of her 14 rebounds as well, while the team defense forced five turnovers.

Brevard was able to mount a 40-point lead at the 7:47 mark in the fourth quarter, when Shakirah Thompson drilled a 3-pointer to make the score 82-42.

This game marks the straight in which every player who entered the game for Brevard scored, and the third game on the 2017-18 campaign in which this anomaly has occured.

Brevard will take on Wesleyan in their next game at Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday, January 13th. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
