Brevard falls to Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va.- Laken Blackburn recorded a game-high 20 points in just 15 minutes of action and three other Wasps recorded double-digit points on the night to lead Emory & Henry to a 90-65 win over Brevard on Tuesday night.

The Tornados (1-2) were led on offense by Taryn Ledford with a team-high 14 points, along with Whitney DeMoss, who recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Annalee Bollinger also reached double-digit scoring with 11 points on the night.

Emory & Henry (2-1) converted 34-of-57 (59.6%) from the field, with Blackburn going 7-for-8 from the floor and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. The Wasp offense also recorded a season-high 20 assists in the win.

After being outscored 28-15 at the end of the first quarter, Brevard used the second quarter to cut into the deficit, as Ledford recorded all four of her three-pointers on the night in the second frame of action. At the half, Emory & Henry led 47-38.

Brevard also outscored Emory & Henry in the third quarter 17-14, and cut the lead to one point on two separate occasions. The third quarter was highlighted by Kelsie Rhyne's three-pointer to make the score 53-52 Emory & Henry in Rhyne's first action of the season.

Emory & Henry pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Tornados 29-10, as seven different Wasps recorded points in the final 10 minutes of action.

The Tornados will return to action Nov. 29 at 7 p.m., as they will take on Maryville in their first home game of the season.
